Post-apocalyptic retro-western ExeKiller has received a new trailer with a gameplay overview

Paradark has released a new trailer for its upcoming first-person action shooter, ExeKiller, which gives us a detailed look at the various gameplay systems and the choices players can make during the game. The trailer was shown during the recent New Game+ presentation.

Gameplay shown in the trailer included shooting, driving, melee combat, and even some parkour elements. The developers noted that a key feature of the shooter is that it encourages curiosity by emphasizing exploration, without leading the player by the hand, directing them to their next objectives.

Players take on the role of ExeKiller, named Denzel Fenix. In the game’s world, ExeKiller is a bounty hunter working for the megacorporation Helion. Part of Fenix’s job is to track down fugitives and recover their souls. In keeping with the game’s cyberpunk theme, these “fugitives” are people attempting to escape the system.

Between missions, players can relax in the massive Tower, which also serves as Helion’s headquarters. In the Tower, Phoenix can accept new contracts, upgrade her gear, and prepare for missions. The overall gameplay structure will be chapter-based, with players progressing through the story based on the types of missions they complete.

After leaving the Tower, players will explore the scorched desert that was once this universe’s New York City and its surroundings. The primary mode of transportation is a heavily modified car designed to withstand heat and radiation. The car also houses tools such as a computer, additional storage, and a radio for listening to music.

While combat will play a significant role in ExeKiller’s gameplay, survival is also a crucial aspect players will need to prioritize. Inventory space is limited, and players will need to be careful what they pick up and carry. Inventory management will be handled through an interface inspired by classic games like Resident Evil 4, requiring players to fit all their items into the available space. In addition to weapons, players will also have access to tools such as lockpicks and cybernetic implants that can be used to locate hidden items in the environment.

These tools will be particularly useful as the missions themselves will be non-linear, giving players a great deal of freedom to complete the contract in any way they see fit, whether through stealth or a gun-toting attack.

ExeKiller will be released on PC via Steam, but the release date is currently unknown.
