Playnix unveils gaming computer with higher performance than Valve’s Steam Machine

Valve has yet to confirm the release date or price of its compact gaming computer, the Steam Machine, which was unveiled over six months ago. Meanwhile, the developer of the popular EmuDeck emulation tool for older games has launched sales of an alternative device called Playnix. This computer is now available for order worldwide, with shipping from Spain. The creators note that stocks are limited. The new device is roughly comparable in size to the original PlayStation 5 console.
The computer comes in a white 3D-printed case measuring 320 x 247 x 64 millimeters. It houses a 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 processor with a TDP of 65 watts, as well as an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card with 16 gigabytes of video memory. The system is equipped with 16 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM running at 3600 MHz. A 512GB M.2 solid-state drive (SSD) is provided for data storage, with an available M.2 2280 slot on the motherboard for expansion. Power is provided by a 600W power supply.
The operating system is PlaynixOS, an Arch-based Linux distribution. The new product is positioned as a direct competitor to the Steam Machine, while offering future upgradeability. The computer is priced at $1,139. This price also includes the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless controller, which is sold separately for $59.
