Windblown PREVIEW
In October of this year, Windblown was released for Early Access – a new exciting and quite interesting isometric roguelike with the possibility of cooperative play. The project is being developed by Motion Twin studio, which has already given the world an amazing Dead Cells game.
We managed to study some of the available Early Access content and in this article we will discuss the key features of the game, as well as draw some conclusions.
As far as we were able to figure out the plot component, the key actions of the game take place in a world in the center of which there is a giant vortex sucking in nearby islands with settlements. The places that he sucked into himself, and you have to study.
The player will have to control a mysterious character who, at a certain point in time, wakes up from the fact that someone is calling him to himself. On the back of the character is a special device called “Pulsor”, it is connected to the soul, which is why the character is able to be reborn after each death.
As for the character, you can choose one of several pre-prepared models. At the very beginning of the game, you will be asked which model you want to use, and after that, if desired, you can unlock a special NPC that will allow you to change the model whenever you want.
The player’s main base is a small island called Ark, where the guild is located. It is from this island that you start each new race, as well as NPCs and objects that provide access to various systems. Some are available from the very beginning, while others you gradually discover as you progress through the locations.
So far, there are not many locations available in Windblown. You go through them one by one, one by one, until you reach the final boss or die. By the way, without any modifiers, one full run can safely take over 40 minutes, this time is influenced by many various factors, ranging from dropped equipment to the skills of the user himself.
Locations differ in their biome, themes, a set of opponents, special chips and destructible objects. Golden shells fall out of the latter – this is a type of currency that you use only within the location, in other words, they disappear after the death of the character.
Each of the above locations looks like a collection of unrelated islands of various sizes. It is worth noting that due to the overall design of the locations, you mostly move with a jerk.
And of course, there are bosses in the game that are waiting for you at the end of each location.
As for the combat system, it is quite simple in Windblown, but it has its own unique features. It consists of various things that are immediately available, for example: a regular attack, a dash and a parry. And those that open up during the passage of the game, such as: alternative attack and finishing.
To sum up, I must say that the core of the new game by the authors of Dead Cells turned out to be strong, although the game itself is not without disadvantages inherent in early access.
It is noteworthy that the community still likes the current version more than not. Windblown reviews on Steam are very positive right now.
The novelty was able to meet the expectations of many gamers, although there were also those who were disappointed. Nevertheless, we can safely say that Motion Twin did not lose face, because the advantages of the game outweigh the disadvantages, which by the time the game is released in a full-fledged release, they will surely fix.
