Valve has sharply increased the price of its Steam Deck OLED console – the 1 TB version now costs $949

Valve unexpectedly raised the price of the Steam Deck OLED by hundreds of dollars. The biggest price increase was for the OLED console models.

The prices are now as follows:

Steam Deck OLED 512GB — $789, up from $549;
Steam Deck OLED 1TB — $949, up from $649.

Valve attributed the price increase to rising memory and storage costs, as well as supply and logistics issues worldwide. Refurbished Steam Deck versions are still being sold at the old prices.

Players on social media are already calling the price increase one of the steepest in the history of the Steam Deck, especially considering the device has always been considered a relatively affordable portable alternative to a gaming PC.

Many independent market analysts have already expressed serious concern about this decision by the platform’s management, as aggressive pricing and affordability have always been key competitive advantages of the company’s devices compared to similar third-party manufacturers. The current large-scale price hike could significantly slow the overall growth of the portable ecosystem’s user base and push potential buyers to choose alternative gaming platforms. Technical support representatives specifically emphasized that all previously placed and fully paid pre-orders will be guaranteed to be fulfilled at the old price, with no additional charges.
