Samson has been released and is receiving low reviews from critics and players

Samson: A Tyndalston Story, a new open-world, story-driven action game from Liquid Swords, the studio behind the Just Cause series, has been released on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Samson is set in the grim fictional city of Tyndalston, where players assume the role of Samson, a man trying to pay off a dangerous debt and save his family. The gameplay revolves around street fights, chases, and risky missions, where every decision impacts the outcome.

The first reviews have begun to appear since its release, and unfortunately, they are not encouraging. The game currently has an average score of 53 on MetaCritic.

Samson reviews point to a game with interesting ideas and a more restrained, old-school approach, which may even seem refreshing against today’s bloated open-worlds, but in its execution, it fails miserably. While some critics acknowledge potential and fun moments, especially when everything works, the release is marred by bugs, outdated and unpolished gameplay, unsatisfactory combat and direction, and an inconsistent storyline.

Any hopes that Samson would be the biggest surprise of 2026 have been dashed. The project is suffering painful blows not only from critics but also from regular gamers, and the situation looks far worse than initial reviews suggested. On Steam, the crime thriller has received a lukewarm reception: currently, the game has only mixed reviews, with an approval rating stagnating at 53%. This is effectively a death sentence for the ambitious title—the community expected something completely different.
