In this side-scrolling adventure game in the style of metroidvania, you play as David, a father who searches for his missing daughter amid the urban chaos caused by Kong. As he progresses, David must navigate through dilapidated buildings and encounter hostile survivors. The story echoes one of the last films and is recognized as canonical.

The gameplay consists of moving through the destroyed locations of the city, jumping over dips and overcoming obstacles. You will encounter simple puzzles that will require finding keys, moving blocks, or using brute force to destroy obstacles. As you progress, you collect tools such as crowbars and sledgehammers that will help you advance further.

In Kong: Survivor Instinct, the metroidvania-style gameplay is highlighted by the following points: you open new zones and re-visit previously blocked areas thanks to an effective system of fast movements. This, along with frequent checkpoints, ensures a balanced gameplay.

The combat in the game is quite simple at first, but it can become a real challenge later. Victory depends on your timing and improving your parry mechanics, but fighting multiple enemies at the same time can make you concentrate. Getting powerful weapons in the later stages of the game makes combat a little easier, but resources such as ammunition and medicines are quite difficult to find.

There are also several exciting scenes in the game that require you to dodge Kong’s fury, and passing through these moments offers a pleasant and impressive experience.

2.5D graphics are made at a decent level. The image of the chaotic city seems authentic, and Kong’s visual presence is impressive. The lighting effects are used skillfully, and the overall aesthetics of the game leaves a pleasant impression.

In addition, it should be noted the excellent sound design with a solid soundtrack and powerful effects. True, some parts of the voice acting could be considered a bit banal, but it harmonizes well with the general mood of the game.

Kong: Survivor Instinct offers an epic journey filled with exciting gameplay. The developers have done an excellent job creating an atmospheric game that demonstrates their dedication and skill. Although some battles can be difficult, especially when it comes to close combat due to the narrow parry capabilities, overall the gameplay will appeal to most connoisseurs of the genre.
