Crimson Desert received a 78/100 rating on Metacritic, with praise for its scale and world, but criticism for its story and interface

On March 19th, the embargo on the action RPG Crimson Desert was lifted. The game from Pearl Abyss received critical acclaim from various publications.

Critics agree that this is an incredibly ambitious project with a vast world, but the execution of some aspects raises serious questions.

Journalists note that:

This is one of the biggest games I’ve ever played, with a staggering amount of quality content, an absurd number of challenging puzzles, and a world so vast that I still haven’t gotten close to seeing it all after 100 hours. Drawbacks like a weak plot and unfair bosses don’t detract from the overall experience.

Crimson Desert rewards patience. The more time you spend in the world, the more enjoyable it becomes.

The game surpasses almost any other open world in its scope, and the combat system shines, even if the story isn’t quite there.

Crimson Desert is vast and beautiful, but it can’t escape its formulaic narrative trenches. Combat feels awkward, especially against the annoying bosses, and exploring the world is uninteresting. I wanted to love this game, but it left me feeling drained.
